What is empowerment of people with pathology

Empowerment of patients is the process of making them active and informed actors in managing their own health.
The goal of empowerment is to help people living with a chronic illness gain the knowledge, skills, and awareness they need to make informed decisions about their health and manage symptoms and treatments effectively.

For more than a decade, we have been dedicated to structured listening to the needs of people with chronic, oncological and rare diseases. We don’t just collect data; we dig deep into the motivations, challenges and hopes of those living with a disease. This understanding enables us to make a difference

At Helaglobe, we collaborate with you to create and implement empowerment strategies aimed at improving a person’s knowledge about his or her disease and communication with all stakeholders along the care pathway, to ensure that he or she is able to quickly access the most appropriate care, yours, and use the most effective tools (including digital) possible for his or her own health.

What are our empowerment services

  • Analysis and understanding of the experience of the person with pathology through both qualitative and quantitative measurements: Patient reported outcomes (PRO) and patient reported experience measures (PREM); but also narrative medicine, focus groups, individual interviews with patients thanks to our substantial dBase of validated contacts
  • Health literacy and Activation: making sure that people with disease have the set of skills needed to make effective and informed decisions regarding their health and become active in their health care journey
  • Serious Game and digital health approach 
  • Awareness and sensitization campaigns to acquaint the person with disease, and the citizen more generally, with prevention approaches, diseases, and treatments through the dissemination of simple health-related information. Find out more.

One example: empowerment of people with multiple myeloma

We opened a discussion table on the needs of people with multiple myeloma between patient organizations (AIL Nazionale, La Lampada di Aladino ETS and Fondazione Quattropani) and professionals experienced in the treatment of the disease to identify concrete solutions to make patients more informed and effective in managing the disease.

Having identified the information need as a priority, we have produced an empowerment toolkit that is fully available to people with multiple myeloma and can support them before, during, and after their visit with the hematologist and other professionals involved in the care pathway.
